2016’s Fair Enjoys Record-Breaking Visitor Numbers as 2017 Dates Announced

An estimated 35,000 people braved the British drizzle last week to visit and enjoy the second edition of Photo London. In addition, the Photo London Talks programme attracted 3,000 visitors to the variety of talks and discussions, which will be available through our online archive very soon.

Photo London endorsed almost fifty satellite events throughout the city during an unprecedented week of photography. With this successful second edition, Photo London has established firm foundations – it is now a vital part of the cultural fabric of London.

The Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum Martin Roth said after visiting the Fair, ‘Photo London has vital part to play in the artistic and economic future of London. To put it simply, you are setting new standards.’

Photo London’s co-founder Michael Benson has said of this year’s Fair:

First off I would like to thank the many galleries and collectors from all over the world as well as our sponsors and our many collaborators on London. Without all of them there is no Photo London. We are, of course, thrilled by the almost universal praise for Photo London yet we need to remember that we are only two years old.

These are not easy times in which to be building a major international photography fair. Political and economic uncertainties abound and, given this, we are delighted to learn that the majority of our exhibitors sold work, meet new collectors and started serious conversations with potential clients.  With our second edition we have laid down the foundations necessary for long term success.

We want Photo London to be a jewel in London’s cultural crown, to be the best photography fair in the world, to be an unmissable destination in the international art world calendar. That will take time and hard work and so between the Fairs we will take steps to build our international collector base. We will also take every opportunity to stimulate the passion for collecting photography in the London and across the UK.

The dates for the third edition of Photo London have been announced as 18 – 21 May 2017, with a preview on 17 May 2017.
