Thaddaeus Ropac, gallerist, in conversation with Sylvain Levy, collector

Austrian gallerist Thaddaeus Ropac specialises in international contemporary art. He founded Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in 1983, and represents more than 60 artists with galleries in Salzburg, Paris and a space about to open in London. Sylvain Levy, with his wife Dominique, founded the dslcollection in 2005. It is one of the rarest Chinese contemporary art collections in France. The dslcollection will present a multi-dimensional exhibition at Photo London 2017.

Gastón Ugalde in conversation with Sophia de Maduro, curator

Gastón Ugalde is an internationally known Bolivian artist, whose work is deeply rooted in Bolivian traditions and is filled with socio-political references. He was the recipient of the prestigious Konex award along with noted Brazilian architect Oscar Niemayer in 2002. Ugalde will speak about the Latin American scene with Sophia de Maduro, a member of the Curatorial Committee of Photo London, and the Founding Director and curator of Collections of the Alberto Vollmer Foundation, Venezuela.

Mat Collishaw in conversation with Dr James Hyman, gallerist and collector

Mat Collishaw is a key figure in the important generation of British artists who emerged from Goldsmith’s College in the late 1980s. At Photo London 2017, Mat presents a Virtual Reality exhibition that restages Fox Talbot’s pioneering 1839 exhibition of photography, which was the first major public exhibition of photographs. Collishaw will speak with Dr James Hyman, a fine art and vintage photography gallerist and collector, and co-founder of The Hyman Collection which includes photography from its earliest days in the 19th century through to contemporary practice. Their conversation will leap from the vintage prints of the 19th century to the future technologies in VR.

On Terence Donovan: Robin Muir, writer, Philippe Garner, curator, and Diana Donovan in conversation

This panel discussion explores the work of the late Terence Donovan, the fashion photographer who become a household name synonymous with glamorous photographs of the 60s. Curator, author and former picture editor of Vogue, Robin Muir, who has written extensively on Donovan, will speak with Philippe Garner, ex- Sotheby’s and Christie’s, and Chair of the 2017 Photo London Curatorial Committee. Among other writings on 20th century photography, Garner contributed to the publication Terence Donovan: Portraits (2016). Diana Donovan OBE, former chairman of the Arts Foundation, English National Ballet School and trustee of The Photographers’ Gallery, married Terence in 1970 and continues to manage his archive.
