PGI, which is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year, is Japan’s longest continuously operating commercial photography gallery.
Over the years, PGI has forged a unique relationship with the medium of photography through its targeted approach to the conservation and preservation of photographs. Through this dedication, we have fostered an abiding trust with generations of artists and are honored to call ourselves a major participant in the photographic community in Japan.
Artists range from important Japanese modernists such as Yasuhiro Ishimoto and Kiyoji Otsuji, to postwar and contemporary masters such as Kikuji Kawada, Ikko Narahara, Tokuko Ushioda, Kozo Miyoshi, Yoshihiko Ito and Michiko Kon. Our roster also includes some of the most cutting-edge contemporary artists including Yoshinori Marui, Yurie Nagashima, Osamu James Nakagawa, Takashi Arai, Yuji Hamada, and the young and emerging including Hiroyuki Takenouchi, and Yuki Shimizu, to name just a few.
As a long-time member of AIPAD, PGI has exhibited at The Photography Show presented by AIPAD (now Paris Photo New York) since 2015 and is dedicated to bringing a rich artistic breadth of Japanese photography to a global audience.
