Ewen Spencer: One Night in Watford
In One Night in Watford, Ewen Spencer returns to a moment suspended between fiction and memory. Commissioned for the launch of Skins in 2006, these photographs were shot across two nights in a suburban house that blurred into set. Cast members and art students merged, dancing under strobes in a space designed to feel aggressively ordinary. The images that emerged are tightly wound, overheated, and eerily alive. What was once a campaign became something else entirely, a portrait of youth as both choreography and instinct. Nearly twenty years later, they reappear in print alongside Spencer’s original scrapbook and shot list, offering a glimpse into a scene where everything was staged, yet nothing felt false.
