In the lead up to Photo London 2019, we are delighted to announce the return of our exclusive course on collecting photography, led by curator, editor, lecturer and consultant Zelda Cheatle.

Aimed at seasoned collectors, as well as those who have begun, or are beginning to think about collecting photography the course will include talks, visits to private and museum collections, and practical handling of photographs. You will also explore photography at auction, in commercial galleries and how photography sits within the commercial art world. The 6 session course will culminate in a private VIP tour of Photo London 2019 and an additional tour of Peckham24 on Saturday.

Everything you need to know about conservation and restoration of photographs, framing, storage and how to store and look after your photographs. Invaluable advice and great insight to owning and caring for photographs. Matt Jones, of John Jones framing and his conservator will each give a presentation and then we will open for discussion .


Friday 26 April –  V&A collection visit
6.30pm – 8pm, V&A

Private visit to the Print Room at the V&A,  personal favourites from the Senior curators of the Photography Department, discover hidden treasures and see glorious works. Including a  visit to the new Photography Centre within the V&A, the history of photography, new commissions and acquisitions.


Tuesday 7th May –  Studio visit
6.30pm – 8pm address to be advised close to visit. 

Visit to the extraordinary studio of Richard Learoyd, which is in itself a camera.

Richard Learoyd’s color images are made with one of the most antiquarian of photographic processes: the camera obscura. Literally translated from Latin as “dark room,” Learoyd has created a room-sized camera in which the photographic paper is exposed. We will have an in- conversation with Richard Learoyd in situ.
Monday 13th May – meet in Chelsea,
6.30pm (address to be advised the previous week, as privacy must to be maintained)

A Private collection, with a curated presentation especially for the group. This is an important and significant collection of contemporary photography, with an introduction by the curator (possibly also the Collector himself.) Classic, rare, iconic, beautiful work – loaned internationally to museums and exhibitions. A rare opportunity to see how a single collector has grown his collection which now has international significance.


Wednesday 15 MaySpecial tour of Photo London
12pm – 1pm, Somerset House.

A special preview of Photo London 12-1.00, led by Zelda Cheatle to all the most interesting corners of the Fair, highlighting artists talks, special finds and a route through Somerset House.


ADDITIONAL: Saturday 18 May, afternoon – Peckham 24 Photography Festival, Peckham
Optional visit and special tour by Zelda to Peckham24 photography festival, South East London.

Participants to the course will each receive a Photo London VIP card which will entitle them and a guest entrance to the fair, 16-19 May 2019, including all-day access on the Preview day, 15 May 2019.
