Tufnell Park Hilton by Chris Shaw
Chris Shaw’s latest publication, “TPH (Tufnell Park Hilton)”, published by Zen Foto Gallery, is the B-side of his representative work “Life as a Night Porter”, featuring diary-like text and photographs that documented his life and the people he encountered from 1993 to 2003 when he was working as a night porter and squatting in what he called the Tufnell Park Hilton, a short-life community housing in north London.
Born in 1961 in Wallasey, near Liverpool, Chris Shaw studied photography at Liverpool Metropolitan College and at the West Surrey College of Art and Design at Farnham, graduating in 1989. His work is held in international collections, including Tate, London and J.P Getty Museum, Los Angeles. Recent exhibitions include “Chris Shaw and Daido Moriyama: Before and After Night Porter” (Tate Britain, London, 2013), “Life as a Night Porter” and “Weeds of Wallasey” (Moscow House of Photography, Multimedia Museum, Moscow, 2014).
