Black Box Publishing, also known as foto / black box, is a form of creative think tank focused on the medium of photography and its relationship to the notion of the narrative. Functioning effectively as a ‘journey’ recorder - ie ‘black box’ - it tracks both the visual and conceptual pathways associated with the medium and making of photographs.

Consistent with this framework of reference it does not operate from a fixed gallery but functions as a form of mobile project space whereby it collaborates with invited artists based on a particular project or point of focus. It assists these photographers and lens-based artists with the production and presentation of a given curated project which is then exhibited in conjunction with selected galleries and at international art fairs.

Central to the endeavours of Black Box Publishing is a commitment to cultivating a culture of collaboration. To this end, it works with selected photographers, print specialists, writers, book makers and designers to produce and publish hand-crafted, limited edition photo box ‘books’ and photographic editions. Committed to excellence, it is the aim of Black Box Publishing to present photo projects that are both singularly aesthetic and culturally engaging.
