Founded in 2015, l’étrangère is a contemporary art gallery based in London. The gallery program has been inspired by the concept of ‘liquid modernity ’as defined by Zygmunt Bauman, which examines the contemporary society’s state of flux, being uprooted, unstructured and increasingly hostile to ‘the Other’. Defining the current times as ‘software-based modernity’, it addresses complex issues of identity, alienation, sense of belonging, and global environment. l’étrangère showcases artists of different generations, highlighting their relevance within the current socio-political context
