Bildhalle is a gallery dedicated to classic and contemporary photography and photo-based art located in Zurich and Amsterdam. The gallery represents a highly curated selection of artists from around the world, with a particular focus on photography of the second half of the 20th century and contemporary artistic positions of the 21st century. In addition to showcasing internationally established artists, Bildhalle's ambitious program also provides space for innovative young and upcoming artists who are pushing the boundaries of the medium of photography by creating a crossover to other visual art forms and are thereby bringing new impetus/perspectives to the discourse.
Founded in 2013 by Mirjam Cavegn in Zurich, Bildhalle has rapidly become one of the most respected galleries for photography in Switzerland and throughout Europe and has further consolidated its strong position in the European market with the opening of a gallery space in the Museum Quarter of Amsterdam in 2020. In addition, Bildhalle opened another space in Zurich in 2023; Bildhalle Showroom. The spacious two-storey venue is dedicated to iconic and previously undisplayed works from the Bildhalle portfolio and brings more dynamism and flexibility to exhibition activities. The gallery holds up to 12 solo and group shows a year and regularly participates in international art fairs such as Paris Photo, Photo London, Art Rotterdam, Aipad New York, Art Paris, Art Miami and Unseen Amsterdam.
