1993: Steven Meisel’s defining year goes on show

A Coruña, Spain, once again becomes the setting for an extraordinary photography exhibition: Meisel93. The major show spotlights renowned Steven Meisel’s output in 1993 – a period of extraordinary creativity for the fashion photographer.

The exhibition presents more than 100 portraits of men and women from the world of fashion and cinema such as Linda Evangelista, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Hamish Bowles, Kyle MacLachlan, Claudia Schiffer, Jaye Davidson, Barbra Streisand, Marlon Richards, Isabella Blow, Amanda Harlech or Twiggy.

Steven is unique among fashion photographers. He has mastered every part of the process from hair and makeup to fashion styling. It’s as if he knows exactly what will happen before he begins. Everything is Steven’s creation. Nobody else shoots in this way – others play their own instruments and have a backup band. Steven is the whole orchestra. The extraordinary images that result from this process are the translation to film of the visions that have played in his head since childhood.

The exhibition is produced by Marta Ortega Perez (Fundación MOP) and Photo London’s co-founder Michael Benson had significant input into the show, including interviewing the elusive photographer. Read the interview on British Vogue’s website.
