2017 Round-Up | Dual Reality Pavilion Commission

Following up on 2016’s Pavilion Commission from Wolfgang Tillmans, and in addition to William Klein’s new 18-metre mural Commission for 2017, the Directors of Photo London invited the Korean Cultural Centre UK to co-produce an installation for this year’s Fair.  In co-operation with SUUM Project and sponsored by Hyundai, two of South Korea’s leading contemporary artists Bae Bien-U and Noh Suntag each developed a new 25-metre mural for the temporary exhibition space located at the heart of Somerset House.

Both artists created an installation titled Dual Reality, comprised of two individual murals: Symposium of Light, by Bae Bien-U and Red House by Noh Sontag.

Bien-U Bae has achieved international acclaim exhibiting widely throughout Korea, Europe and America where his works can also be found in museums as well as private collections thus making him as one of Korea’s leading representatives of art-photography.

Noh Suntag produces photographs that detail real-life situations directly related to the division of Korea. For several years he has been teaching at the Seoul Institute of Arts where his lectures enthral, influence and motivate his students of photography. Noh uses his photography to explore how images related to the division ideology are distributed and consumed in Korean society.
