Prepare for Photo London: What’s on in 2018
With a new year comes the next edition of Photo London to look forward to, and to prepare we have selected a few of the best photography shows for you to visit in London before the Fair opens at Somerset House during May 2018.
Museum of London: London Nights
11 May 2018 – 11 November 2018
The capital’s museum brings an eclectic approach to the theme, fusing portraiture, documentary, conceptual photography and film from the 19th century to the present day. With over 200 works on display by 50 artists from Bill Brandt to Rut Blees Luxemburg, this exhibition promises to leave nothing to chance in the dark halls and neon streets of London after dark.
Barbican: Another Kind of Life – Photography on the Margins
28 Feb–27 May 2018
Barbican will stage an exhibition that seems as timely as it is curious, by bringing together 20 international artists from the past six decades who have focused on the disenfranchised individuals and communities that exist on the periphery of societies across the world. This work gives an authentic voice to those who the photographers have conspired with to tell their stories.
National Portrait Gallery: Victorian Giants – The Birth of Art Photography
1 March – 20 May 2018
Returning to where it all started, the National Portrait Gallery will present the gems that have inspired successive generations through their invention and sensitivity. The Victorians left us with many great inventions and achievements, but few possess the haunting mystery as the portraits of Julia Margaret Cameron or Oscar Rejlander.
