British Journal of Photography: Ones to Watch
Beginning with a short presentation of the new ‘Ones to Watch’ issue, British Journal of Photography’s Editor, Izabela Radwanska Zhang, will host a panel discussion on the subject of developing photographic practice and what it means to be a young or emerging photographer in today’s world.
She will be joined by four of BJP’s nominated talents. They are; Sophie Gladstone, whose polished images explore our desire of an aspirational lifestyle while surrendering to the cultural capital herself; Tayo Adekunle, who recreates 19th century photographs of sensationalised Black bodies to highlight the blurred line between racialised exotification and ethnographic documentation; Asafe Ghalib uses his lens to elevate and celebrate the queer community and those who have been historically misrepresented; and Billy Barraclough who ruminates on his family archive and grief by using his camera to investigate connections to the past.
Following a short presentation of work from each artist, the panel will share their personal experiences of the industry thus far. The talk will end with a Q&A session.
