Eight years strong: 2023 promises to be our strongest edition yet
As we start a new year, the eighth edition of Photo London in May will be here before we know it. Building upon the success of last year’s fair, which saw record sales, 106 galleries from 18 countries and 35,000 visitors, we can’t wait to welcome you all to our 2023 fair.
Fair highlights of 2022 include an inspiring Public Programme, with two major fashion-focused exhibitions on Nick Knight and Frank Horvat. Speakers in our Talks Programme included Anastasia Samoylova, Gerry Badger and Melanie Manchot, as well as a strong line-up of Nikon Ambassadors. Alongside numerous book signings, workshops and tours, the 2022 Fair also saw major acquisitions by international institutions, as well as important sales to private collectors. Several galleries reported sell-out booths, with at least two exhibitors selling over 100 prints with prices ranging from £250 – £100,000 plus.

Looking to May, we’re thrilled 2023 Master of Photography Martin Parr will be bringing entirely new works of images taken in the UK and will unveil a project he’s been working on for the past 50 years.

The highly anticipated Centre for British Photography will present the second major exhibition in our Public Programme. Providing an overview of British photography by exploring two strands: a humanistic documentary tradition and a more personal, performative, practice.

While the full list of exhibitors will be announced in February, it’s clear that when we open our doors in five months time the gallery line-up will be its strongest yet. With a wider reach than ever before, new exhibitors come as far afield as China, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Finland and Iran. The Fair’s internationalism is matched in the Publishers’ Section, which returns bigger than ever with participators coming from France, Germany, China, Poland, Japan, the Netherlands and the UK.
There will also be a special exhibition on Mexican photography presented by Maroma, a Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya and co-curated by Photo London co-founder Fariba Farshad and Mexican gallerist Patricia Conde who takes part at the Fair as an exhibitor for the first time. ‘Fotografia Maroma: a living gallery of Mexican photography’ will present works by four prominent Mexican photographers: Patricia Lagarde, Javier Hinojosa, Ilán Rabchinskey and Margot Kalach.
