Inspired by a 17th-century painting which documents the wedding of an Inca Princess to a Spanish captain, Ñusta Beatriz Clara Coya and Captain Martín García de Loyola, the film The Last Inca Princess brings to life a historical moment in Latin America: the culmination of the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Narrated through the eyes of a young Inca princess, it places special emphasis on the role of women in Peruvian history, showing us a vision of the origins of mestizaje (racial mixing) and communicating a message of female resilience and the struggle to maintain an ancestral identity
