IMAGE OF THE BOOKS TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE
“To be like everyone else” is a photobook that addresses a family story of loss, shame and recovery through a narrative that mixes archival images, original photographs, images made with artificial intelligence and texts narrated in three voices.
The heart of this project is the story of Tita, my grandmother, and her mother Esther, my great-grandmother. Esther was the protagonist of a series of tragic events, representative of her historical context; erased from the family narrative as has happened to many other women throughout history.
The key to this photobook is her absence not only in the family story, but also in the visual narrative, as there are no photographs of her. Esther remains a mystery. “To Be Like Everyone Else” focuses on the idea of how an untold or undocumented event can mark a family’s history.
