Look Inside America by Anthony Hamboussi

Look Inside America is a photobook by Anthony Hamboussi built from two periods: September 2001 and 2018–2024. The images move through everyday spaces across the Northeastern United States—homes, storefronts, streets, and landscapes—where political, religious, and economic ideologies are visible in the built environment.
Flags, slogans, religious symbols, and historical references appear alongside land-for-sale signs, corporate messaging, and surfaces shaped by commerce and ownership. Power emerges through familiar forms: decorative imagery, symbolic language, and the merging of belief, identity, and display.
Counter-voices also appear—protest signs, handwritten messages, and expressions of grief and solidarity. Animals are shown within systems of control, from zoos to farms. What begins in the shadow of September 11 unfolds into an examination of how ownership, nationalism, and exclusion shape everyday life.
