Yael Martínez: Luciérnaga

Yael Martínez: Luciérnaga

Luciérnaga documents Yael Martínez’s long-term work in Guerrero, Mexico, a region shaped by organised crime and unresolved disappearances. The project began after the disappearance of three members of Martínez’s own family and expanded to include families across Mexico, Honduras, Brazil and the United States. Images are interwoven with field notes and physical interventions in the form of pierced and backlit prints. The work avoids direct depiction of violence, focusing instead on its lingering presence and the possibility of light as both a symbolic and material element.
