Image of the book Se murió Fidel

Se Murió Fidel portrays the days after the death of Fidel Castro in 2016. In a silent and unrecognizable Cuba, the photobook portrays a nation at a crucial historical moment.
The work is composed of an opening text – an essay blending reporting, memory, and personal reflection – followed by a photographic sequence that reveals, layer by layer, the events surrounding the death of the Cuban leader. It is a journalistic and also personal gaze upon a historic moment seen from within, from among the people, with a camera and a notebook.
The author’s perspective is that of someone who arrived in Cuba with sympathy for ideas of equality and curiosity about the revolutionary experience – and who, as the days passed, came to see a country far more nuanced and layered than any single narrative, official or otherwise, could capture.
Published by Vento Leste Editora. Trilingual edition: Spanish, Portuguese, and English.
