Booth Event – Book Signing: Lori Pond

The Atlas of Chimerical States explores chance and impermanence through a series of experimental techniques (lumens, sound waves, magnetic fluids).
When wildfires swept through Los Angeles last year, the world outside my door felt overwhelming.
Instead of shutting down, I turned toward abstraction to face that uncertainty. The process helped me retreat into beauty, surrender control, and stay present.
Each image is shaped by uncertainty. For lumens, I place foraged plants and found objects on top of light-sensitive paper to expose in the sun. The weather makes every exposure different-clouds, heat, and humidity all change how the image forms. The moisture and pigments in plant matter cause halos and color shifts as they react with the chemicals in my 1975 expired Russian photo paper. I paint the objects with dabs of historic photographic chemistry like developer, fixer and cyanotype solutions.
