Chroma 141
Grey Crawford Chroma. A pioneer of pre-digital photography finally comes into focus at Photo London 2026 with a new volume book. A groundbreaking body of experimental photography that pre-dates the digital image revolution by decades is now brought into focus with the publication of Grey Crawford – Chroma 1978–1985: The Complete Chroma, Volumes 1 & 2 (Beam Editions) launched at Photo London 2026.
For over 30 years, Grey Crawford’s visionary photographic practice remained largely unrecognised by major institutions. Today, with works entering prominent collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The Getty, his pioneering “pre-digital” aesthetic is finally receiving the global attention it deserves. The chroma series captured 1970s Los Angeles in the final stages of its industrial and suburban expansion.
