“Desierta” is a journey through the arid and profound landscape of the Atacama Desert — not only as a physical geography, but also as an emotional territory.
This photobook proposes an intimate gaze at the marks that time, memory, abandonment, and emotional traces imprint both on one’s own body and on the spaces we inhabit or pass through.
This photographic project does not seek answers, but rather for resonances. It is an invitation to look at emptiness as presence, ruin as narrative, and silence as a shout.
The desert becomes desierta: a state of the soul. A place where what once was remains, even when it is no longer there. Where every remnant, every shadow, every trace is living memory.
Note: “Desierta” is the feminine form of “desierto” (desert) in Spanish. The title plays on this gender shift — the desert becoming something more personal, interior, and embodied — a nuance that is intentionally left untranslated to preserve that poetic weight.
