Charlotte Jansens Presents: South Asian Photography Across Regions and Realities

Artists Revati Sharma Singh, founder of Fulcrum Mumbai, Neha Jaiswal founder of The Arts Family and Ayeesha Aggarwal join writer and curator Bakul Patki in a nuanced dialogue exploring South Asian photographic practices. Their conversation interrogates the complexities of working within the medium across both regional and UK contexts, while critically examining questions of representation, identity, and the South Asian diaspora.

Revati Sharma Singh  is an interdisciplinary artist, working between London and India for the last 23 years and her quest has always been about the great divide between hunger and abundance around the world. Using clay, handmade sterling silver, 18 karat gold, cast metal, tapestry, embroidery, pigment and paints, Grains have become central to her work and fractal like repetitive compositions are the basis of her artistic and spiritual practice. A regular contributor to the LAPADA Fair, Saatchi’s Starata Art Fair, the Affordable Art Fair, London and Singapore, Masterpieces Art Fair, London, Art Monaco and the Venice Bienale where she has been invited to take part twice. She is fast gaining a reputation as an international artist and her frustration at not being able to transform injustices has awakened in Revati a new, more political angle to her work. Today much of the artist’s work carries a very strong social message.

Neha Jaiswal, founder of The Arts Family is an entrepreneur, philanthropist and an art collector based in London. She has more than a decade of experience in London real-estate and Arts. Her passion for Arts lead her to Sotheby’s Institute, London where she worked for nearly three years before completing her MA in Art Business from the Institute. She curated her first art exhibition titled Living Traditions in April 2013 in London with the aim of promoting traditional arts from India. Neha has served on the advisory board of Fine Art Bourse, an online auction house, growing its business. Neha currently sits on the South Asian Acquisitions Committee (SAAC) at TATE. Neha lives with her two children and husband in a leafy part of London.

Ayeesha Aggarwal is the founder of Fulcrum, Mumbai. This is the first year the gallery has participated in Photo London, with a presentation of artists Vasudhaa Narayanan, and Ranjit

Bakul Patki is a London-based curator, producer, consultant and writer. At the heart of her practice is a belief that the arts have the power to connect, and she is passionate about bringing work into the public realm — removing physical, political, financial or perceived barriers, to extend reach and amplify impact. She has curated exhibitions at a number of prestigious locations, including Somerset House London, Museum of Fine Arts Budapest, Photo Museum Ireland, and Kochi Muziris Biennale. She is currently curator of The Gallery, a major public art project that presents work on thousands of sites across the UK and internationally.
