Sunday 21 May 2017
5:50 pm - 6:50 pm
Somerset House
The Prix Pictet is recognised as the world’s leading prize for photography and sustainability. Now in its 7th cycle, the theme for this year’s prize is ‘Space’.
From a shortlist of twelve photographers Richard Mosse was declared the winner for 2017 with his project Heat Maps, 2016-17, which attempts to foreground the biopolitical aspects of the refugee and migration situation now facing Europe, the Middle East and north Africa. The project maps refugee camps and other staging sites using an extreme tele-military grade thermographic camera that was designed to detect and identify subjects from as far away as fifty kilometers, day or night.
Mosse will discuss his award-winning work with Alona Pardo, curator at Barbican Gallery.
