The Town I Love So Well is Sam Batley’s year-long love letter to Barnsley, exploring the creativity, community and cultural identity that continue to shape the town. Produced as part of the Storying Barnsley cultural programme, the documentary brings together local voices, memories and lived experiences, reflecting on the legacy of traditional industries while looking towards new forms of expression, belonging and change.

Rooted in Batley’s wider practice, which often centres on recovery, masculinity, working-class identity and the overlooked creativity of Northern towns, the film holds space for the people and communities that make Barnsley what it is.
