Established in 2012, BLOW UP PRESS (BUP) is a family-run publishing house focusing on photobooks and lens-based art books. Founded by two crazy photography enthusiasts, BUP initially operated as an online publisher, publishing doc! photo magazine, e-monthly devoted to contemporary documentary photography; and contra doc!, e-quarterly specialising in art photography.
Listening to the constant questions about a paper version of the magazine, after a few trial editions of it, the first printed issue of the doc! photo magazine appeared in 2016, resulting from the fusion of both BUP online publications. Today doc! photo magazine is irregularly published thematic publication addressing the main challenges our humanity is to face.
Another milestone happened in late 2017 with the first photobook - 9 Gates of No Return by Agata Grzybowska. Its market success became a driving force for the next ones. Today, BUP boasts 10+ books that are gaining recognition among readers and critics around the world and that address thought-provoking topics, which reflect the company's motto: “When the story matters.”
From 2020, BLOW UP PRESS also organises the BUP Book Award, a photobook competition in which the main prize is the transfer of existing photo project to the book format and its publication.
