After more than a decade acting as director of two renowned international galleries, and an innovative curatorially-driven project space in the heart of London, Fabian Lang has returned to his hometown of Zurich to open his own space. The gallery launched during ‘Zurich Art Weekend 2019’ with an exciting group show including new or previously unseen works by Sara Anstis, Heidi Hahn, Mernet Larsen, Jessie Makinson, Wangechi Mutu, Mira Schor and Grace Weaver, to much critical acclaim (Frieze’s “Critics’ Guide, Must See Shows”). It is located in a beautiful old townhouse in the Niederdorf, right behind the Kunsthaus Zürich. The gallery curated first solo shows for many of the artist they worked with and it continues to explore new approaches to exhibiting. With "revert to type", the gallery presented a two-part exhibition - one developed on a virtual platform (a fictional space in a landscape it created exclusively for the exhibition), and one in the gallery, showing the same artworks in two different curatorial interpretations. Lang organises regular artist talks. The last ones were with Katy Hessel, Tahnee Lonsdale, Sarah Dwyer or Isabelle Young, to name but a few. In 2022, Lang co-founded Zurich1 - a community of galleries in Zurich’s district 1 around the new Kunsthaus. The gallery's ethos, as set out in its inaugural show, shall remain consistent: to both promote and represent great and innovative artists, and nurture the best talent from the new generation of artists around the world. It will curate and organise four to six original shows throughout the year, both group and solo presentations.
