Silvia Rosi’s work explores her personal family history drawing on her Togolaise heritage, and the idea of origins. She works with self-portraiture, video and text to narrate her parent’s story of migration from Togo in West Africa to Italy. She will be in conversation with Emma Bowkett, Director of Photography at the Financial Times FT Weekend Magazine.

 

About the speakers:
Born in 1992, Rosi works and lives between London and Modena. She works with photography, text and video to explore ideas of memory, migration and diaspora. She graduated from London College of Communication in 2016 with a BA (Hons) in Photography. Recent exhibitions include Encounter, showing at Athens Photo Festival, Landskrona and Gexto (2020); With Monochrome Eyes at Borough Road Gallery and the Jerwood and Photoworks Awards 2020 at Jerwood Arts. Rosi recently undertook a residency at Thread in Senegal, which she spoke about at a talk for 1:54 A Contemporary African Art Fair.
Emma Bowkett is Director of Photography at the FT Weekend Magazine. She has curated exhibitions for the Triennale der Photographie Hamburg, Peckham 24 and last year co-curated an exhibition with young Londoners as part of the Create Jobs programme. Emma is a University Associate Lecturer at London College of Communication (LCC).
