Photo London presents Marton Perlaki in Conversation with Maisie Skidmore

For this evening event, Photo London is delighted to present artist Marton Perlaki in conversation with Maisie Skidmore. Perlaki will be discussing his latest body of work.

Marton Perlaki is a visual artist who works primarily in photography. His practice narrows in on the minutiae of human nature – the personal, the emotional and the psychological grit so fundamental to who we are – to examine our shared experience anew. Through his lens, familiar scenes become at once intimate, bewildering, simple and absurd. His experimental ideas are rooted in observation and often driven by character. In the studio he works across many different media, drawing, film and collage all cross-pollinating, to create a nuanced and always-evolving take on modern life.

Originally from Budapest, Marton Perlaki attended Bàlint György Press Academy (with a major in photojournalism) and Budapest University of Theater and Film Studies, where he graduated with a master‘s degree in cinematography in 2011.

Marton was shortlisted for the 2015 Paul Huf Award; was one of Foam’s 2015 New Talent’s and had work included in the 2015 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London. In 2016, Marton published his book Elemer in conjunction with Loose Joints and debuted his solo exhibition of Bird, Bald, Book, Bubble, Potato at the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center in Budapest.

Marton is represented by Webber Gallery. He lives and works in London.

Maisie Skidmore is a freelance writer, editor and editorial consultant specialising in fashion and art, and their intersection in contemporary culture. She is the editor of Noon, a biannual magazine which explores art and commerce, and a contributing editor of Apartamento, an everyday life interiors magazine. She was previously digital editor of AnOther Magazine.
