Kovet.Art Chief Art Officer and curator Camilla Grimaldi will host an Instagram Live discussion titled ‘Championing Emerging Artists’ with the internationally renowned institutional curator and the current director of the Anish Kapoor Foundation Mario Codognato. Codognato and Grimaldi will discuss the importance of discovering emerging artists and the ways art organisations and galleries are now evolving to create structures to facilitate entry to the emerging art market and participation in the contemporary art scene. About the speakers:
Mario Codognato is a renowned international curator with exhibitions at the Belvedere, Vienna and the MADRE to name a few. He is the curator of the current exhibition of seminal works by the celebrated British artist Anish Kapoor at the historic grounds in Norfolk “Anish Kapoor at Houghton Hall”. He has been the director of the Anish Kapoor Foundation since 2016. He was since its foundation in 2005 the chief curator of MADRE, the new museum of contemporary art in Naples, where he curated, among others, the retrospectives of the work of Jannis Kounellis (2006), Rachel Whiteread (2007), Thomas Struth (2008) and Franz West (2010). He previously worked at the contemporary art project at the Archaeological Museum in Naples, where he curated exhibitions of Francesco Clemente (2002), Jeff Koons (2003), Anish Kapoor (2003), Richard Serra (2004), Anselm Kiefer (2004) and the first ever museum retrospective of Damien Hirst (2004). He curated several thematic exhibitions, including Barock at MADRE in 2009 and Fragile? at the Cini Foundation in Venice in 2013. From 2014 to 2016 he was chief curator at the 21er Haus of the Belvedere in Vienna, where he has curated among others, the retrospective exhibitions of Olafur Eliasson, Tomas Saraceno and Sterling Ruby, and the exhibition “Sleepless” on the history and role of the bed in art.
Camilla Grimaldi
Camilla Grimaldi has extensive experience in the art world in various capacities including as curator, gallerist and international art advisor for over 20 years. She is our liaison with corporates in finance and real estate. She curates the platform’s exhibitions and pop-ups. She works directly with emerging and established artists and has curated contemporary exhibitions in both private and institutional spaces. She began her career at prestigious institutions including Christie’s New York Contemporary Art department, the Guggenheim, Venice and White Cube, London. After her studies in Art History at Università degli Studi della Tuscia, Italy, she achieved an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art at Cambridge University in collaboration with Christie’s Education. In 2004, she co-founded Brancolini Grimaldi, a contemporary photography gallery which opened in Rome and Florence, ultimately moving to London in May 2011. She is currently on the advisory board of Photo London. In 2010 Grimaldi co-curated an exhibition of emerging artist Gabriele Giugni at MADRE together with Codognato and curator Paola Ugolini.
