Photo London Lives is a series of conversations with artists, photographers, writers, gallerists, collectors and curators live on our Instagram channel.

Lives will premiere on Thursday, 2 July, at 6.30 pm BST with a conversation between London-based artist Tom Lovelace, whose practice lies at the intersection of photography, sculpture and performance, and gallerist Alma Zevi, whose eponymous gallery has spaces in Venice and London’s Mayfair.

Lovelace and Zevi will discuss artists residencies – a key element in the work of both – making artworks in new spaces and response to new environments, and how artists have been responding to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Tom Lovelace is a London based artist, working at the intersection of photography, sculpture and performance. Central themes to his research and visual inquiry encompass the collaborative histories of photography, the semantics of the everyday and the role of Minimalism within contemporary visual culture. His curatorial projects include With Monochrome Eyes (2020), Rehearsing the Real (2019) and At Home She’s a Tourist (2017). Lovelace is a Tutor at the Royal College of Art and London South Bank University.

Alma Zevi founded her eponymous gallery in Venice, in 2016. The gallery’s mission is to provide a dynamic platform for both international emerging and established artists. The gallery regularly hosts artist residencies where new bodies of work are produced in response to the city’s unique cultural heritage. Central to the gallery’s ethos is the artist residency and project space that Alma founded in the mountain village of Celerina, Switzerland in 2013. In January 2019, Alma opened an outpost of the gallery in Mayfair, at the centre of London’s gallery district. This space, which serves as an office and private viewing room, further represents the gallery’s programme. Alma is a member of the Chinati Contemporary Council; the Warburg Visionary Circle; and sits on the board of Pentagram Stiftung (a Swiss private Foundation whose mission is to study and promote 20th and 21-century glass). She has spoken at the Courtauld Institute, Oxford University, PhotoLondon, Somerset House and Serpentine Gallery. She graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2010.
