Photo London x Nikon Emerging Photographer Award

2022 Emerging Photographer Award recipient Max Miechowski giving his acceptance speech on stage

The Emerging Photographer Award was set up to nurture and enable the career development of emerging photographic artists, placing their work within the public programme of one of the world’s most celebrated fairs championing the photographic medium.

Launched in 2015 at the inaugural edition of Photo London, the Emerging Photographer Award is in partnership with Nikon. The Award champions new lens-based artists by offering transformative opportunities through Photo London’s global reach and the generous support of Nikon.

Speaking about the Award, Julian Harvie, Nikon’s Marketing Director for Northern Europe, says: “Nikon has a proud legacy spanning more than 100 years of empowering photographers to tell stories in powerful ways. The immensity of talent among Emerging Photographers is breathtaking. To play a small part in their future by supporting this prestigious award is not only a great privilege as part of our partnership with Photo London, but also intrinsic to our brand’s century-old DNA.”

Galleries exhibiting at that year’s fair representing emerging photographic artists are invited by Photo London to participate. Judged by members of the Curatorial Committee, the jury look for artists creating boundary-pushing work.

The winning photographer receives a range of Nikon camera kit and, alongside the gallery, will benefit from acknowledgment at a special ceremony at the Nikon Gallery (Somerset House) during Photo London, plus promotion across the fair’s online and social media channels. The recipient will enjoy ongoing support from Photo London by having their work shown in the Nikon Gallery the following year.
