Hydra (Mexico City) is an independent photography platform and publisher dedicated to expanding how photographic work is produced, circulated and collected. Operating across publishing, exhibitions and educational programmes, Hydra connects artists, audiences and collectors through a network that supports the development and distribution of contemporary photography.
One of the central focuses is INCUBADORA DE FOTOLIBROS, an experimental program that has been held 5 times since 2016, founded on dialogue, exchange, and experimentation with local materials and production processes. In 2018 we started our publishing project with 30 photobooks. At Photo London we will include 4 new publications from 2026:
Hay pájaros en el alambre | Gabriela García Rivas uses text and unpublished images to tell the unique and personal narrative of the author growing up in the uprising of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) in 1994 in Chiapas, Mexico, a fundamental revolutionary movement of the 20th century in Mexico.
To Be Like Everyone Else | Anai Tirado is a photobook that tells a family story of loss, shame, and reunion through a narrative that combines archival images, original photographs, images created with artificial intelligence, and texts narrated by three voices. Based on the story the author's great-grandmother, narrates the tragic events of Esther's life and how she was erased from family history.
Come to eat my body by Raúl Jiménez is the result of a relentless exploration of the wounded body, ravaged by illness, pain, and death, as well as a deeply self-referential essay born from the author's own experience as a patient living with an incurable and progressive disease. The author shares photographs that invite to witness the disobedience of the flesh and the inevitable emptying of what we once were, the loss, the drowning.
UNSETTLED MOMENTS by Mariana Gruener is a collection of multidisciplinary books held together by magnets, which will grow over time. Presents the first five titles: 49, Death is just around the corner, Desires are inventions, Dead moments, For an instant.
“It is a city of thoughts, which will be populated over time, until it builds a library of silent structures, reflective of life”.
